Courtney Karnes
Licensing Manager, Capitol CMG Publishing

Courtney joined Capitol CMG in April 2016, making the leap from litigation attorney to Capitol CMG’s Licensing Manager.  She handles the negotiation and execution of all commercial license agreements, from single-song licenses to blanket licenses for Capitol CMG’s entire catalog and everything in between.  Courtney endeavors to engage new licensing partnerships and nurture existing relationships.  In addition, Courtney strives to protect the songs in Capitol CMG’s catalog from unauthorized exploitations, offering licenses when warranted and issuing takedown notices when necessary.

Prior to joining Capitol CMG, Courtney worked as an attorney at King & Ballow, where she assisted on several high profile copyright infringement and royalty lawsuits, most notably the “Blurred Lines,” and as a post-graduate legal fellow at the Arts and Business Council of Greater Nashville, where she oversaw the Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts program for the benefit of low-income artists and art non-profits.  Courtney earned her J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law and holds an M.M. in Music Business and Entertainment Industries from the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
